The XFL’s first week of play triggered a wave of support from across the country, with celebrities, athletes, and fans turning out in droves. The average game had 17k fans, and stadiums continue to open up new seating for growing demand.
This, however, does not mean the league is without its critics. Johnny Manziel recently tweeted this:
ComebackSZN still alive if y’all ain’t know. Just not playing for another league that’s going to fold on you midway through the season
— Johnny Manziel (@JManziel2) February 8, 2020
His name was thrown around earlier in the past year, but he was not selected by a team in the XFL Draft, and commish Oliver Luck has stated that the XFL’s quarterbacks are better than Johnny Football.
Manziel had a great run at Texas A&M, passing for 7,820 yards, 63 TD’s and only 22 Int’s with 2169 yards and 30 scores on the ground. However, he struggled to put it together in the pros after being drafted 22nd overall in 2014. While his experience with the Cleveland Browns and Montreal Alouettes gives him upside as a veteran backup, he floundered in the AAF last season, throwing for just 61 yards and a pick in competition with current Dragons starter Brandon Silvers.
