Houston quarterback P.J. Walker has been the best player in the XFL this season, but his defense is the biggest reason the Roughnecks moved to 4-0. Houston forced five turnovers against Dallas last week, including a fumble recovery with under two minutes to play that stopped the Renegades three yards shy of the endzone. The Roughnecks had 21 points off those turnovers to remain the lone undefeated team in the XFL.
“We talk about those takeaways all the time,” said Houston coach June Jones. “Our defense just kept hanging in there. We needed to score more points when we had our chances with those takeaways, but it’s a team game and did enough on each side of the ball to win.”
The Houston defense dominated and the players weren’t shy about letting people know. Roughneck players mocked Renegade QB Landry Jones, telling the sideline cameras, “Get Landry Jones the f— outta here.”
Seattle enters the matchup on the other end of the spectrum. The Dragons benched starting quarterback Brandon Silvers after the team fell in a 17-3 hole at halftime. Former South Florida stand out B.J. Daniels nearly led a comeback but came up short in the Dragons 23-16 loss to the BattleHawks (3-1). Daniels gave St. Louis a spark off the bench, highlighted by his 84 rushing yards on seven carries. Daniels is expected to get the nod at quarterback for the Dragons in Houston.
“I think we picked up energy in the second half and tried to make it a game,” Daniels said. “I’m really thankful and proud of the teammates we have in Seattle because we all ride for each other. Our guys are close-knit, they stick together.”

XFL odds Week 5
- Spread: Roughnecks -12.5
- Total (Over/Under): 46.5
The Roughnecks are the best team in the XFL and the Dragons might be the worst, so this huge line makes sense. The Roughnecks come in 3-1 against the spread (ATS) this season but their lone ATS loss came in Week 2 as eight-point favorites, their highest spread until this week. The Dragons are 2-2 ATS this season and are coming off an ATS victory last week as 12-point underdogs. The 12.5-point spread is the highest of any game this season.
The over hit in the Roughnecks first three games this season before Week 4 bucked the trend with the under hitting. The Dragons over/under record is 1-2-1 this season.
